In the Visual arts, the pursuit of Beauty has been generally replaced by Left-of-Center political content. Except in the most extreme cases, such as the NEA funding of obscenity, didactic works of art that shocks and offends (if that's still possible), express Leftist propaganda, and undermine the value of craftsmanship go virtually unchallenged. Apparently, most decent folk ignore the visual arts of today in favor of retrospectives of the Great Masters who are long dead. What is going on?
Movies and television seem to grab all the attention which is appropriate given their huge impact on society. Yet many of the controversies surrounding mass media were preceeded by debates around Painting, Sculpture, and even Architecture, from the last century. That's why this blog narrowly focuses on contemporary visual art to answer the question "What are the current trends and how do they filter down into the pressing issues of today?"
Thank you.
